converseonfire @ 11:45 pm: New Car Dillema
So, I guess its time for me to start posting since i'm in the market for a new Cougar. My current Cougar is getting older and not ageing well. It's a 1993 Cougar with over 260,000 miles on it. The doors don't work so well and its only a V6. So.

I'm trying to decide whether I should buy a 1997 30th edition Cougar with the V8 and a body kit which is 108 miles away from me which would be a pain to have checked by my mechanic and I wouldnt have the money to modify it much
or
a stock 1996 Cougar XR7 with the V6 engine that is for sale ($2000) right up the street.
(no pain for getting it checked and I plan on swapping the engine for a Mark VIII V8 with the money and some other stuff if I have the money)
or
a 1995 Jetta GLX ($4500)with a suspension upgrade but otherwise stock and no extra money for mods.

I'm not really al that in to street racing as most of you know and I might take my new car to the track every once in a while, but this is mostly an in between car for me to save for a 2007 Volkswagen GTI.

So whats your opinion?

Go for the Jetta. No engine swap to worry with and you can still work to make money to mod it out.

"you can still work to make money to mod it out."

Thats where your slightly off. Because the cougar is so cheap, I would already have money saved up to mod it, but the Jetta is right around how much I can spend right now and then I need to save for my apartment for next year in B'Ham. Living away from home really sucks when you have to pay for an appartment instead of a dorm ;(

Yeah.. I know what you are saying...

I know it isn't quite the same, but I have to start paying the insurance and gas for the 8. Which means I must get a job that pays more than 6 an hour.

Get the Jetta. Besides what mods where you going to do on a car you got anyway? Oh yeah, suspension. Well, the Jetta already comes with at least 600 bucks worth of Koni-Shock-goodness. And I don't know anything about those springs.

The Jetta shouldn't depriciate nearly as much as the cougar and should have better gas mileage.
As much as we joke on Frank about it, FWD isn't that bad. A cougar wouldn't have any less understeer but all the less traction (and more horsepower, but ohwell) And anyway you can always come to a rally-X with it and kick ass (damn front wheel drive cars making it look easy)
